Photo Post 162: Crowded Afternoon @ Pike Place Market

Crowded Afternoon

So this was taken after I already took a round of whole market (Well, actually the first floor…whole market is huge to finish quickly).

After I took the sign board photograph, as I already had my tripod fully extended in my hands, I thought of again going near the entrance area to take a long exposure of people with inside market view.

Damn…I was weird to set tripod in middle of this crowd and stand still composing photograph and taking it (especially when it is long exposure and a little movement can blur your photograph).

Post processed in lightroom. Mostly basic processing and minor tone curve change.

I’m happy that I’m having a nice mixer of different types of photographs in my collection now. It’s good to try everything possible. It teaches you something new every time you take that one tiny different step. :)

Photo Post 161: Pike Place Market Street Sign

Pike Place Sign Board

Still continuing my photos from Pike Place Market (Seattle,WA) visit. Actually still more photos there, I’m not really getting time to post and do more photography. Working life is awesome but busy too. :-)

This photograph is unique because it covers good elements. First of all, the street sign board showing the intersecting street where Pike Place Market is, and the famous red Public Market clock and sign.  I really liked the way original photo came out. The only problem was the alignment of the sign board pole. While I was going to post the photo after normal post processing correction, I suddenly thought about ‘transform’ feature of photoshop.

I quickly exported the photograph from Lightroom to Photoshop, converted it into a smart object and started playing with ‘perspective’ and ‘skew’ feature of transform. Bingo ! It really gave me an interesting and more satisfying look. Even though it’s not perfect effect, I’m quite happy with the final outcome. By observing more, you can figure out that the shapes look different.

I increased sharpness using Photoshop smart sharpen because photograph covers elements with nice edges like building (which intersects with plain sky), green signs (which partly intersects with plain sky), the red board (which kind of have 3d perspective) and also edges of the sign board pole.

Photo Post 160: Cherry Tomatoes

Cherry TomatoesContinuing my photos from Pike Place Market (Seattle,WA) visit. In the last post, I mentioned that pike place market is a great place for food photography.

Even though it was very crowded when I went there, I stubbornly stood at few places without moving to take some photographs. People and even the vendors don’t like if someone is not buying something and just standing in crowd taking photographs with his equipment. lol. This photograph is one of them. Luckily this was not that hard to take as there were many fruits/vegetable vendors in the row so people were not gathered at only one vendor.

Same like previous photograph (post-159), I knew exactly what I want from this photograph when I took it. So didn’t spend much time in trying different compositions. I just took two with bigger frame at right angle and then cropped it.

Post process: I first used a lightroom preset called ‘cross process 3′. I liked it in parts but didn’t like the heavy blueish tint all over the photograph and also black/shadow clipping was underexposed, so I changed the temperature to get rid of blueish feel and get the color feel I wanted. Also increased shadow clipping to have better exposure in some areas. Increasing shadows also increased a noise little bit but that looked better to me and gave a nice texture to photograph.

I loved this photograph. This will look awesome in canvas print to hang it near the kitchen area. :-) Whether someone is going to buy my photographs or not, I’m definitely going to buy myself a good poster print of this one for my own house.

Photo Post 159: Pike Place Market, Seattle, WA

Pike Place Market

40 days old photograph.

Since I came to Washington state, I was kinda finding places to go to and take photographs. Even though I live very close to Seattle, I never took opportunity to visit it after being 8 months in Bellevue. I was mad at myself because of this, so finally I made plan to visit Seattle.

I didn’t had much time so the first place to visit was ofcourse the pike place market. I thought it will something I will quickly finish and then will go to Seattle public library. But I was totally wrong.

My first visit to one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers’ markets in the United States took more than 3 hours and still I couldn’t finish everything.

It was a great trip. I was not prepared to take macro shots but there is an awesome opportunity to do some food and flower photography there because of so many lovely vendors.

I won’t lie but I saw this kind of  photograph somewhere before, so that was kind of inspiration to take this photograph.

It was extremely sunny there so lighting for a good photograph was not good at all. I had to take 3 photographs with different exposure (hdr) and then did the selective coloring in lightroom. As I said selective coloring for this photo was decided before I took it, so it was quick and easy to process this one. I love those moments when you know what you want to do and you do that, and life becomes nicer :)

Feeling good to write after long time as usual.

Photo Post 158: You, Me and The Silence Goes For Miles

You, Me and The Silence

After long time !! 2 months.

I just don’t get enough time sometimes and other times I get enough lazy to do all the stuff together.

That doesn’t mean I didn’t photographs though. I took. May be not that much, but still I managed time for that.

If you look at previous post then this photo connects to the same place and same trip. I remember I saw this couple sitting there and discussing something. I was actually trying to take an HDR of these rocks with green algae on top of them and the water. But I thought that if I take this couple in the photo, it may add an interesting perspective.

I asked them if I can include them in my photo and they said OK, so I took HDR including them. As expected, they moved in all my single photographs and that’s why my HDR processing didn’t go very well around that area (thanks to ghost removal option in photomatix to making this better). I didn’t like colored version and monochrome kinda gave me some connection between all the elements. So I finalized on that.

At the time of giving title, as they were looking in kind of opposite direction, I made it into a silence between two people situation and gave the title.

Editing: As I said it is an HDR, so that was done in Photomatix Pro and then minor touching in lightroom.

Thank you for visiting !!
